Reservation to Reservations.....or not?

Like a ritual in my daily routine when i glance at the newspaper in the morning.Reports on protests by medical students forced me to intospect.

If the report would have been abt a controversy in a movie script or some Bollywood spicy mix I would have thanked them to set my mind machinery working so early in the morning when i am still partially dozing but this report forced me to ruminate as to where our education system is headed?

The question in my mind is not wether the protests are righteous or not?
rather it i s.....
Do we need reservations or not? If yes upto what level in our education system.

I agree that we need to reserve some seats for those who have been neglected for so long for their upliftment and equality in terms of status in society. It is our moral duty towards our country to contribute and to strive towards betterment of the condition of our country as a whole and not just to work towards amelioration of non-backward classes.

As every coin has two sides.I ponder over otherside to by recalling the snippet's that i picked or rather overheard in cafeterias, evening strolls and coffe houses.

Their side of the bargain goes on like.....won't making our basic & primary education system stronger and more approchable help.Providing reservation to those classes that have been neglected till now.Giving them a stronger foundation right from their primary education and thus providing them with equal oppertunities and facilities help in their upliftment?

If they get a good foundation right from the very beginning to their senior secondary as till senior secondary no entarnce exam is involved only board exams are conducted by various boards i.e providing reservation only when competition is not involved as selection in entarnce should solely be on merit basis. By providing right founadtion probably need for reservation quotas would decrease at enterance level. This would probably ensure that products from our premier institutes maintain and exalt the standards earlier set by them all over the world. My sole concern is any decision that is made should be made keeping in mind both the sides of the coin.......as finally it is our country that is going to be affected.

We need reservations.... lets reserve the posts of PM and the goddamned HRD minister first...let Mayawati(SC/ST's saviour) and Mulayam(OBCs demigod) become our PM and HRD Minister.
Soon a time will come when we will have reservations for Brahmins and upper castes.

i dont agree with u, thr shldnt be any reservation, not even in primary education.
reservation was done, long time back, to give upliftment to backward communities...i think they have got sufficient upliftment in such a long period
now everything shld be caliber based...
if thr ancestors suffered thn , why the hell, shld thy get benefit for that, and that too for such a long period...yaar, jo suffer kiye the, unki to aage ki generations bhi khatam ho chuki hain...thn why still reservation is being continued??

by providing such high reservations...what the govrnment is not realising is that now the people from these castes need not study at all...they just have to know a few basics and they 'll make it to premier institutes and warning for rest of the masses...now the competition gonna be more severe...
outcomes: more paper leaks...
more false obc and sc/st certificates.... more bribes to officers making such papers... and overall degradation of the workforce....

i feel even the existing reservation percentages should be enough and that policy should be made such that only ONE generation of the sc/st/obc get the benefit...infact there should be economic demarkation to apply for reservations for all and not on the caste basis.....if the reservtion system continues...the caste differences won't end in india...

@ chitranjan
i feel the same that reservation in entarnce examination should not be encouraged. whaat i am talking abt is giving reservation in schools where students can get basic education and thus compete in entarnce only on merit basis and not on reservation stick

hey namit, i dont agree with u...reservations in school too, not justified...
if government wanna help them, they can do so by providing them coaching and books but not seats...not even in primary education
please elaborate, what do u mean by reservation in schools...
yaar tum bachon ko bachpan se hi discrimination ki aadat daal rahe ho...wht other students will think, students in primary classes dont knw, wht the hell, reservation means...thn thy will be puzzled, why other student is being privileged..

@ ankit
if goverment provides coaching and books to people it can help but again it means spending on infrastructure and eduaction which goverment alraedy does by providing grants.

i am not saying that reseravtion should be hiked. i am saying that where there is no competition involved there we can push a little harder so that we can eliminate reservations at enterancee levels for medical anf IITs.

Backward class should be only monetarily helped. No questions of linking their being lacked backward and ignored years back with making other classes of society a step back today....lol....aise to humaare saath bura ho raha hai aur kuch saalo baad hum bhii is nainsaafi ke liye quota maang lenge
